COA Application

□ Name: Noiz
□ Journal: studbunny
□ Series: DRAMAtical Murder
□ Canon point: End of “true path” canon, original DRAMAtical Murder game. This version of Noiz will not have had the same intimate interaction with Aoba as one who comes from Noiz’s route.
□ History: DRAMAtical Murder Wiki

□ Personality: Noiz is a rude, brash teenager who seems to have little regard for social norms. He sees no problem with breaking into Aoba’s room to set up his computer hacking equipment, and acts as if Aoba were the rude one to interrupt him. Later, he kisses Aoba with no warning, inviting him to join his Rhyme team and flustering Aoba to no end.

Noiz shows indifference to most people, preferring to keep his distance rather than allow himself to be used. This all stems from his abusive childhood, where he was locked in a room alone for many years after his inability to feel pain was discovered. Because of his inability to feel pain, as a child, Noiz did not understand why hurting others was wrong, and thus had trouble socializing. If it didn’t hurt when someone hit him, why was it bad to hit others? His parents gave up on trying to cure him or help him in any way, preferring to isolate him completely. Now, his social skills are rather lacking, and he still lives alone, subsisting on delivery pizza and pasta.

As a teen and young adult, he also finds that others value him for the money he has, as his family is rich. He feels as though he has no worth to others in only himself. He prefers to work alone, pushing away offers for help with suspicion. He thinks his life is worthless, that he’s not the same as a normal human (since he can’t feel pain), so it doesn’t matter if he lives or dies. He also thinks that most people are out to get something from him, whether money or some sort of gratification. He cannot understand how anyone would do anything for him without trying to get a reward from it.

Noiz can be arrogant and boastful, as seen when confronting Koujaku when their street gangs clash. He thinks highly of his own abilities as a hacker, Rhyme player, and a fighter, and will take anyone and anything on. When he hears of “Sly Blue”, the famous undefeated Rhyme player, he seeks him out, challenging him (Aoba) to a match that he’s certain he’ll win. When Aoba defeats him, he becomes obsessed with a rematch, convinced that Aoba cheated or had some unfair advantage.
Noiz seems to purposefully cut himself off from deep human contact, showing very little emotion in his interactions with others. When he is forced to interact, he is usually taciturn, unless provoked into a confrontation. He does appear to have some fondness for Aoba, however, even outside of their romantic path. He even does the stereotypical “It’s not like I did it for you or anything” comment when brought in to help--even though it’s obvious that he has.

Despite his apparent attempt to push everyone away, Noiz does have some desire to feel a connection and feel something real. When he first left Germany at 16, he was still attempting to feel pain, something that he thought would make him more normal, more human. This drove him into the Rhyme games, where he could actually feel some mental form of pain. He wants to feel human and feel like he belongs, and yet he acts contradictory to that by putting up a prickly, rude exterior and not letting anyone close to him.

□ Age: 19
□ Gender: Male

□ Appearance: Noiz is approximately 5’10” (179 cm), and has a slender but muscular build. His hair is a very light strawberry blonde color, and he has pale green eyes. His most distinguishing feature is the numerous piercings he has covering his body--at least 24, including face, ears, tongue, hands, back of neck, belly button, and several on his penis. Many of his piercings are multiple and matching, such as the double surface piercings on his hands and neck, eyebrow pierced twice, and snakebite lip piercings. His earlobes are stretched as well, though not to an unreasonable gauge.

Noiz tends to dress in green, black, and navy blue tones, and has bandages covering his hands and fingers. He dresses in layers, wearing a short-sleeved white/navy/green button-up shirt and tie over a long-sleeved black shirt, and shorter, calf-length matching pants over long black trousers. His shoes are ridiculous blue and green boots with wool lining. As far as accessories, he always wears a knitted, tassled hat with the logo of his Allmate, Usagimodoki, in the pattern, as well as a belt with the same pattern. His Allmate cubes are strung on two looping lines attached to his belt loops, and bunny-themed buttons and safety pins adorn his shirt and tie. On his wrists, he wears leather cuffs studded with green and lined with wool. A large bleeding smiley-face button on his hat completes the outfit. He often wears spiked metal knuckles or even what appears to be small gauntlets covering his hands when he fights.

□ Abilities/Powers: While Noiz is a normal human teenager, he does have one striking ability--or disability, depending on the point of view. He cannot feel pain, nor any sensation, really. (Some Wiki links list this as CIPA (Congenital Insensitivity to Pain), but the symptoms are not quite the same.) He describes it as being wrapped in wool, all feeling dulled, pleasure, pain, or otherwise. The only place he can feel anything normally at all is his tongue.

While CIPA is actually a genetic disorder with no known cure, Noiz’s affliction appears to be mental, as Aoba is able to destroy the walls blocking Noiz’s feeling with a successful Scrap in the good end of Noiz’s route. However, I am not taking Noiz from this route, and his mental “block” will still be in place.

Noiz has some skill at fighting, mainly because he fights recklessly, with no regard for his own well-being. (Being unable to feel any damage to himself is probably a contributing factor as well.) He is shown to be quick and agile, and willing to throw himself completely into a fight.

Aside from physical ability, Noiz is shown to be adept with computers and Allmates. He removes a bug from Ren after a Rhyme match with no apparent difficulty--a bug that plays a large role in Ren’s storyline! His job in Midorijima involves using his computers and network of information to predict where and when Rhyme matches will begin. He is an accomplished hacker, and his skills are invaluable to the “team” both as they rescue Tae-san from Morphine, and later break into Platinum Jail.

□ Personal Items:
-His usual outfit, with the layered look and hat
-A laptop (which will frustrate him because it won’t work)
-His Allmate cubes (won’t work as a weapon, as there is no Rhyme game in Ariel. At best they would function as companions, if they ever would would function at all.)
-His Coil, which would usually be used for communication, but now is only a dead piece of jewelry
-Spare bandages for his hands
-A set of spiked metal knuckles

□ First Person Sample:
[The video flickers on, showing a table with what looks like a dismantled laptop scattered across it. Bandaged fingers toy with a piece before tossing it back on the pile, a huff of frustration sounding over the audio.]

Useless. Why even give it to me if it won’t work? Can’t even get the thing to boot up.

[He tugs what looks like a bracelet off his wrist and flings it amongst the technological wreckage.] Same with the fucking Coil. You’d think that if they can put a chip in my head they can keep this thing working.

[Another annoyed sound, and he starts the laborious process of reassembling the laptop, apparently forgetting that he’s still broadcasting, until he speaks again a few minutes later.]

So, does anyone’s equipment work around here, or did I just get fucked over especially hard? I guess I can offer my assistance fixing things if they actually worked… gotta get some sort of job here.

□ Third Person Sample:
At the test drive!
